Sensitive Home Upgrade in Bleasby for a Retired Couple Returning to Their Childhood House

A retired couple chose to move back into their childhood home in Bleasby — a place full of memories but in need of a thoughtful, modern update. As they were downsizing and didn’t require a large amount of space, the brief was simple: create the rooms they needed with the minimum extension possible, while improving the home’s aesthetic appeal, natural light and connection to the garden.

The existing house had several rooms with no clear purpose, so we reconfigured the internal layout to make better use of the footprint. This allowed us to create the true heart of the home: a bright, open-plan kitchen, dining and snug area. A new utility room was also cleverly incorporated into the existing garage.

Larger openings and enhanced glazing improved sunlight and created a stronger connection to the garden.

We also developed a Phase 2 option to maximise ROI, offering the potential for additional rooms above the garage should they ever decide to sell. Construction was planned to minimise disruption to day-to-day living.
