Future-Ready Family Home Design for a Young Family
A young family had purchased their forever home and sought help to fully visualise its potential. Our approach explored both minimum and maximum interventions, allowing them to understand how much space they genuinely needed — without spending simply for the sake of spending.
We reconfigured the internal layouts to better support modern family life, ensuring clearer circulation, improved room purpose and stronger connections between key living spaces. The staircase was relocated to the centre of the house, becoming a defining feature of the arrival experience and providing a more intuitive heart to the home. All previous ad-hoc additions were rationalised to restore architectural coherence.
We developed a series of design options: a light-touch recladding and interior refurbishment; a full new roof scheme; and finally a new roof combined with an extension. Ultimately, the new roof without extensions offered the right balance for the family at this stage, while the design future-proofs the home by accommodating a potential extension when the time feels right.
